The wearing of official University and academic attire shall comply with the provisions stipulated in the Statute on Official and Academic Attire of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Only the official USM academic attire/convocation gown prescribed and provided by the University is permitted to be worn during the USM Convocation Ceremony.

Any modification, addition or removal of any part of the academic attire, including the gown, cap and hood, is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

The exchange of academic attire assigned to graduates is not encouraged, except for reasonable grounds and with the approval of the University, subject to the availability of academic attire.

Graduates are responsible for ensuring that the complete set of academic attire, namely the gown, cap and hood, is received and returned in good condition.

Graduates are required to return the academic attire, namely the gown, hood and cap, together with the graduate card upon completion of the convocation session, within the period and on the date stipulated by the University.

Any return made after the stipulated date will be subject to a late return penalty at the rate prescribed by the University.

The degree scroll and academic transcript will only be released to graduates who have:

• Returned the academic attire;
• Returned the graduate card;
• Fully settled any penalties or outstanding debts;
• Fully settled any charges imposed for damage or loss by the University.
