The wearing of official and academic dress shall comply with the provisions stipulated in the Statute on Official and Academic Dress of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

Only the official USM academic dress/convocation robes prescribed and provided by the University are permitted to be worn during the USM Convocation Ceremony.

Any alteration, addition or removal to any part of the academic dress including the robe, mortarboard and hood, is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

The exchange of academic dress assigned to a graduate is not encouraged, except for reasonable grounds and with the approval of the University subject to the availability of the academic dress.

Graduates are responsible for ensuring that the complete set of academic dress comprising the robe, mortarboard and hood, is received and returned in good condition.

Graduates are required to return the academic dress, namely the robe, hood and mortarboard, together with the graduate card upon completion of their respective convocation session within the period and on the date stipulated by the University.

Any return made after the stipulated date will be subject to a late return penalty at the rate prescribed by the University.

The degree scroll and academic transcript will only be issued to graduates who have :

• Returned the academic dress;
• Returned the graduand card;
• Fully settled any applicable penalties, outstanding payments or charges for damage or loss imposed by the University.
